June is the season of hydrangeas in Japan. In Japan, we have four distinct seasons throughout the year. So, June marks the transition from spring to summer.
As of early June, the temperature in Tokyo is around 25 degrees Celsius, but it will soar to nearly 40 degrees Celsius in the height of summer.

June is a transitional period, and it's also the time when we can see hydrangeas blooming. These flowers have colorful petals gathered into a spherical shape, resembling a ball.
Moreover, this period marks the arrival of the rainy season, known as "tsuyu" or "baiu." During the rainy season, it rains almost every day, regardless of whether it's heavy or light rain, and the humidity is high, resulting in damp and sticky weather.
It can be challenging as laundry takes longer to dry, and clothes might develop unpleasant odors due to the humidity. 🥵💦
While the UK also experiences rainy days, the Japanese rainy season is quite different. For those who use the trains in Tokyo, the morning and evening rush hour trains are like being in a human-made sauna. It's so stifling that it's best to avoid if possible! 😅
I also used to think, "Here it comes again," every year when the rainy season arrived. Despite being such a season, if you happen to visit Japan in June, I highly recommend taking the time to see the hydrangeas and fully enjoy Japan's rainy season.
Just like cherry blossoms, hydrangeas bloom in various places, so you might stumble upon them unexpectedly during your outings.
Moreover, hydrangea festivals are held across the country, so if you're interested, I suggest looking them up and paying a visit.

The Kamakura area is popular for its buildings and atmosphere that evoke old Japan. Many people visit here throughout the year.
However, the scenery of hydrangeas and temples together is seasonal, so it's worth visiting if you're interested.
That's all, This time I've written about hydrangeas that start blooming in June in Japan.
